Colour of the year

Each year Pantone who are the authorities in colour release their colour of the year and this year it is Pantone UltraViolet.  We thought that we would profile a few violet coloured plants that we are growing for the coming season so that you can get your fix of this stunning colour.

Penstemon "Purple Passion"

A striking Penstemon that flowers flat out from early summer through autumn with dark purple flowers.  Purple Passion is one of the darkest coloured Penstemons available.  A sunny well-drained spot is its favourite position, although it can cope with a bit of shade. The trick with Penstemons is to not over fertilise as this will cause dieback in winter. Cut back to around about 20cm in mid-winter. Height 90cm x 60cm

Salvia "Leucantha"

We think that this is one of the most attractive salvias with its velvety purple flower spikes from summer right through until the frosts occur.  Full sun to partial shade. Height 1.5m x 1.5m Wide

Lobelia  Vedrariensis

Also known as purple cardinal flower, this is a vigorous and upright perennial for the summer garden which has beautiful tall spires of dark purple flowers that stand proud of the green leaves that are also flushed with purple from mid-summer to early autumn. A stunning addition to the garden that will add vertical interest.  Thrives in a medium to wet soil in full sun to partial shade. A magnet for butterflies Height to 1.2m x 90cm Wide

Ageratum houstonianum

Heliotropium arborescens | Cherry Pie Plant
