Lagurus Ovatus | Hare's Tail
Lagurus ovatus is such a pretty ornamental grass. The name ‘Hare’s Tail’ perfectly describes its fur-like fluffy tails that start off with a soft green tinge and then soften as they age to a gorgeous buff colour. This is different to the little bunny tails that you see at the beach with its heads being bigger.
Lagurus ovatus is a short green-leaved grass that has a clumping habit. The cute fluffy tails look lovely as an edging in your garden and whilst adding texture. Whilst it is an annual, it may be hardy in some milder areas or where it can be protected from frost. A pretty addition to a wildflower or cottage garden.
This grass works especially well with flowers that bloom in late summer and autumn. The fluffy tails dry exceptionally well and you can leave them on the plant if want to keep them as an accent in your winter garden, or cut and dry them by hanging in a bunch upside down. They dry beautifully and last for months, refusing to shatter the way some textured grasses do after drying. Perfect in a pot or the garden.
Grow in full sun and in ordinary well-drained soil. As the plants resent root disturbance, simply cut the bag and pop straight into position.
Annual although perennial in areas that can provide protection from frost
