Euphorbia marginata | Snow On The Mountain
Euphorbia marginata Snow on the Mountain or Summer Icicle as it is also known is a great garden performer. It is only small in stature growing to around 45cm in height with its the pale green leaves becoming delicately variegated very soon after planting outdoors which are then followed by small florets. Flowering occurs from mid-spring to mid-summer.
Snow on the mountain adds a wonderful contrast to bright summer bedding and container displays and is at home in the garden border where it performs well in hot and dry soils.
Euphorbia need full sun to partial shade, in a well-drained position. As these plants hail from poor soils they do not require fertiliser or excessive water. Too much of either will provide lush growth but at the expense of flowers. Cut back flowering shoots to ground level in late summer or autumn.
Ideal for use as a cut flower. To get the lasting ability from these flowers, either sear the cut ends over a flame or dip them in boiling water.
As with all members of the Euphorbiaceae, both the plants and seed are toxic if eaten.
When working with spurges, plants should be handled with care, especially when sap is showing. Always wear gloves since the milky sap is poisonous and a potential skin irritant. The latex is corrosive to the skin and can cause burns or dermatitis.
