Aconitum napellus has showy deep purplish blue flowers that are densely packed on spikes and is a great plant for the shaded and partially shaded garden.Flowering from mid to late summer for many weeks, the little flowers actually resemble a hood like those worn by medieval monks which is where the common name that it it is called - monkshood comes from.

In ancient times it was used as a poison on arrows. It is important to note that all parts of this plant are poisonous and we recommend that you avoid planting this if you have children that might come in contact with it.  You should also wear gloves when handling it. It does make a great cut flower but you will want to be careful how you use it.

Plants like a moist but well drained position.  Great for a wild garden as well as cottage gardens but again be careful where you position it due to its poisonous status. Suitable for light sandy soils, medium loamy soils and heavy clay soils.

Cutting back the plants after flowering will promote a re-bloom later in the season.

A plant collectors plant as not often seen.

Perennial | Hardy | Winter dormant

Height 1.2 - 1.5 m x 45cm Wide.

Please Note: ALL PARTS OF THIS PLANT ARE TOXIC
