Aquilegia vulgaris var. stellata | Ruby Port
This vintage perennial is an heirloom variety dating back to the 1600s. Ruby Port is particularly beautiful with its fully double spurless rich red wine coloured flowers that appear from late spring and into early summer. The flower stems rise gracefully above the ferny grey-green foliage.
Easy to grow, this evergreen perennial looks beautiful in a cottage style garden, border or shade garden. It is important to have moisture but with good drainage as well, mulching plants also helps. Excellent for cutting, Aquilegias can last up to ten days in a vase. Aquilegias look lovely with foxgloves such as Elsey Kelsy, Astrantia major Rubra and Cranesbill Geranium Phaeum Samobor Mourning Widow
