Asclepias Curassavica | Butterfly Plant
Asclepias Curassavica is considered highly by the Monarch Butterfly Association as a top plant for Monarch Butterflies to lay their eggs on as well as being an excellent source of nectar and fuel. This attractive plant has red buds that burst forth into clusters of bright yellow and orange flowers. It is low maintenance shrub and also perennial so not only an excellent choice for your butterflies and attracting beneficial insects but it is a great plant for a sunny, well-drained spot in your border or cottage garden and can also be grown in a pot.
By planting this plant in your garden you can help reverse the plight of the Monarch Butterflies as so often the Swan Plants whilst excellent, get demolished so quickly by too many caterpillars but these plants seem to sustain them really well in our experience. A great plant to also teach children about the life cycle of the Monarch Butterfly. See our Butterfly Seed Bombs and Corten Steel Butterfly which are all perfect additions to help start and beautify your butterfly garden.
