Astilbe arendsii | Diamant
A very attractive garden plant with stunning flowers. The flower stems are arching and graceful and are densely packed with hundreds of tiny white flowers which appear from early to mid-summer. The flowers are very long lasting and work very successfully as a cut flower. Left on the plant they turn a rich caramel colour which will add interest to the winter garden. The foliage remains attractive throughout the year and is quite fern-like.
Astilbes are tolerant of very heavy shade but conversely adapt well to a dappled shade position. They can be planted in a full sun area but you would need a cool summer and adequate moisture - we mulch our plants to retain moisture. If you have hot summers then shade is important for success with this plant.
Astilbe Diamant looks particularly effective planted either en masse, in the border, and is also suited to pond areas and streams or as an edging for shady spots, so really a great all rounder. Butterflies are attracted to the nectar of these plants and as mentioned previously they cut well and also dry well.
Plants can be easily divided once established and splitting congested clumps after a few years will ensure maximum flowering.
