Centaurea cyanus | Blackball
Centaurea Cyanus "Blackball" is easy to grow and is a hardy annual. Commonly known as Bachelor's Button, this particular variety is a tall plant that produces stunning, dark rich purple, almost black, double flowers on top of the attractive silvery foliage. Cornflower Black Ball blooms all summer and into autumn providing a unique and exotic colour to the garden and attracting butterflies along with other pollinators.
These look amazing with peach coloured Calendulas and Nasturtiums in a vase and make a great cut flower and of course being an annual, the more you cut them, the more they flower.
Cornflower Black Ball is a cottage garden favourite and also make an excellent border and cutting garden flower. Cornflower can tolerate drought and adapt to a wide range of soils, as long as a well-drained sunny spot is provided.
