Centaurea moschata | The Bride
The flowers on Centaurea moschata The Bride will literally take your breath away. It was in fact introduced over 350 years ago! This is an easily grown, cottage garden favourite and one not often seen these days. The flowers start out the most exquisite pure white and then as they age they change to a buff colour in the centre. The flowers are on long straight stems, perfect for cut flower arrangements and bouquets. These elegant beauties flower in summer and are very long lasting, both in the garden and as a cut flower. If using for cut flowers, they should be harvested when they are just starting to open. They also have a lovely, sweet fragrance... Simply divine!
The key to success with this little stunner is drainage, so we plant our in our gravel garden which has soil in it but a good amount of drainage metal as well. Plant in full sun to partial shade. All Centaurea's resent root disturbance so cut the bag and simply pop straight into position and firm the soil gently around the plant.
