Coreopsis grandiflora | Mayfield Giants
What could be more summery than this striking cheery golden yellow coreopsis? This lovely flower is actually part of the sunflower family and is just so easy to grow. Coreopsis ’Mayfield Giants’ is one of the tallest of all the Coreopsis cultivars. Growing to around 1m in height, they create a dazzling summer display of large 8cm golden yellow daisy-like flowers which start in late spring and carry on right throughout the summer. The foliage is mounding and is lovely glossy green.
When it comes to colour Coreopsis is hard to beat, combine it with other big summer bloomers in a hot sunny location, flowering in warmer areas can continue almost nine months of the year. Once established they are drought tolerant. They look striking combined with our lovely Dahlia Natal.
Butterflies adore coreopsis (next to purple flowers, butterflies like intensely yellow flowers the best), so if you are wanting to attract butterflies to your garden then this plant is an absolute must.
For almost any sort of garden, a hardier, more beautiful flower would be difficult to find. Coreopsis are drought-tolerant plants, which will adapt to poor soil, have great durability and perform best in full sun or light shade, so pretty happy almost anywhere. Deadheading will encourage a continual show. Plants can be easily divided in early spring or early autumn.
