This is a perennial that forms an attractive clump of large, wavy-edged powdery blue leaves. Resembling cabbage leaves this plant forms a mound of bold foliage which is striking in its own right. In summer the plant produces dense sprays of small creamy white flowers that stand high above the basal foliage. A great choice for a seaside plants. In Europe Sea Kale is actually eaten - they harvest the shoots in spring which are eaten like Asparagus.
This plant will perform to its best in full sun in fertile but well drained soils. Plants will tolerate poor soil and also some shade. Keep sheltered from strong winds - drought tolerant once established. Very pretty flowers and a perfect choice for coastal gardens, cottage gardens and vegetable gardens! Flowers are loved by butterflies
Cut the plant down to the ground in autumn. Plants can actually be propagated by division in early spring or you can also take root cuttings in winter to provide you with more plants.
