Epimedium x versicolour | Sulphureum
The heart-shaped leaves of this beautiful plant combine delicate shades of bronze in early spring and are fantastic for using with cut flowers, we think it deserves much wider use in gardens! Epimedium x versicolour Sulphureum has delicate primrose yellow flowers in late winter to early spring that float above the mounded foliage on wiry stems. In autumn the greener summer foliage becomes marbled with bronze remaining all winter. This is an excellent edger or groundcover for the woodland or semi-shaded garden.
Once established the plants are long-lived and very sturdy and are actually quite drought tolerant, we find a layer of mulch is helpful to keep moisture in when summers are particularly hot. Plants can be divided in early spring or late summer. Happy in partial or full shade and not overly fussy about soil type.
