Garrya elliptica | James RoofRegular price $29.00 Save $-29.00
This stunning tree is noted for its beautiful silvery catkins, and not one that you tend to see around a lot these days. Garrya elliptica James Roof is the winner of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society and it is a large and vigorous shrub that has waxy dark green leaves. In winter it carries its silvery 20cm long silvery pendant catkins that hang like Christmas tree decorations. The shrub has an upright growth habit with stems that flare gracefully from its base. Likes a sheltered position and does not like it windy as the leaves can burn.
Performs best in full sun to partial shade in well drained soils and is drought tolerant once established, mulching will assist with moisture levels in summer. Garrya elliptica is ideal to grow against a wall to provide shelter and to display the catkins. Garrya will also tolerate some salt so is therefore suitable for a coastal garden.
Hardy to -10 Celcius - It will survive colder temperatures if carefully positioned.
