Geum rivale | Lemon Drops
From a compact clump of crinkly leaves, Geum rivale Lemon Drops has the palest soft green-lemon nodding bell-shaped flowers, which stand on tall stems and open from late spring to early summer and yet again in autumn if it is enjoying its position. Although Geums do enjoy a moist soil, they do seem to grow happily in the driest, sunniest spot in your garden.
Geums are hardy to frost so a good all-round garden plant but also happy in a pot as long as you keep it well watered. A layer of mulch is also appreciated especially in drier conditions to help with some moisture retention. The nodding flowers if cut last well in a vase and the more you cut them, the more you will be rewarded with their dear little pale green/lemon flowers. Even when they are finished flowering their little pompom seed heads are attractive and I even cut these to use in a vase as they are so pretty. A perfect plant to use for edging in the garden or anywhere for that matter where you want something that is a little different.
