Helleborous orientalis | Alba
This stunning white Hellebore is a clumping evergreen to semi-evergreen perennial. This long-lived variety forms a mound of leathery deep-green leaves, contrasted with an eye-catching display of profuse, cup-shaped white flowers that appear from late-winter to early-spring, one of the very first perennial flowers to grace the spring landscape.
Well-suited to a shady or partially shaded woodland garden, which looks attractive as an understory to deciduous trees, in beds and mixed borders, or as a showy, spring-blooming specimen for a pot. The lovely white flowers are great for brightening-up shadier parts of the garden. Prefers a rich, evenly moist soil, though fully established plantings can survive on relatively low amounts of water. Hellebores make great cut flowers, but be sure to cut and immediately plunge their stems into boiling water to seal them to get a few days out of them in a vase, or alternatively float them in a decorative bowl of water.
