Hydrangea macrophylla is a dense vigorous multi-stemmed Hydrangea with lush light-green saucer-shaped leaves.
In summer this lovely shrub produces large clusters of blue or pink flowers dependant upon the acidity or alkalinity of your soil on purplish-black stems which contrast beautifully with the flowers and foliage - a Hydrangea with a difference!
Very pretty. To prune this plant, simply thin out crowded stems in late winter and shorten where necessary. Hardy for cold climates and performs to its best in a semi-shaded position but does appreciate both good soil moisture.
Did you know... Hortensia is an old-fashioned common name for the mophead forms of Hydrangea macrophylla. It is also the French and the Spanish word for hydrangea. It can also be traced to the common French name Hortense, which in Latin means "gardener" or "of the garden"
