Lobelia siphilitica | Blue Cardinal
This plant hails originally from North America and is the perfect choice for the late summer garden. Lobelia siphilitica (Great Blue Lobelia) is a popular perennial which produces long-lasting upright spikes to approximately 90cm of bright blue flowers held atop finely toothed lance-shaped leaves which form a low rosette of foliage that flower right through until autumn.Happy in medium to wet soils in either full sun or partial shade although plants will appreciate some respite from the hot afternoon sun. Keep the soil moist during summer dry spells with some mulch. A great addition to garden borders, wild gardens, woodland and cottage gardens and also alongside ponds and streams. Keep deadheading to encourage re-blooming. You can pinch the plants back for a bushier more compact plant. Divide plants in spring once they bulk up
