Lunaria annua | Variegata
This old fashioned elegant variety also known as Silver Dollar and Money Plant is much sought after and not often seen with the variegated leaves. The flowers are white and the outer edges of the arching heart-shaped leaves are lightly variegated making it a perfect choice for lighting up a shaded area. Lunaria are fast-growing and flower in late spring and into summer followed by the well known beautiful silvery flat seed pods.
The seed pods are excellent for drying and look wonderful in a dried floral arrangement. Happiest in a drier shaded area but will cope with some morning sun, not the hot afternoon sun. Not fussy about soil and plants are drought tolerant once established. This lovely plant will self-sow and will come true from the seed so you will always have it. Please note the plants will have no variegation but this will occur as the plant's age. Being a biennial, these plants will put on leave growth in their first year, flower in their second year and then set seed to produce future plants.
