This stunning and highly sought after perennial is grown primarily for its attractive foliage although of late it has become very popular with our Flower Farmers due to the beautiful soft biscuity coloured plumes it produces which look stunning in floral work and make and make an excellent cut flower. 

Macleaya cordata performs best in full sun to light shade in moist but well-drained soil with lots of organic matter added to help with soil fertility.  Macleaya likes to spread so be sure to position it in a location where you can give it the room that it deserves to shine.  It is a perfect choice for mid to back of the border and looks stunning after the rain as the raindrops glisten on is grey-green glaucous leaves.

This stunning and much sought after perennial is grown primarily for its striking and beautiful foliage but the flower heads have become increasingly popular with our Flower Farmers for its soft biscuity coloured plumes. It does like to spread so make sure you put it somewhere where you have some space. The plant is related to a poppy
