Matthiola incana | Perennial StockRegular price $12.00 Save $-12.00
No cottage garden is complete without stock!
This variety is a magnificent perennial stock that produces upright almost shrubby like plants of grey green felted foliage with pure white sweetly scented sprays of flowers in its second year after planting around early summer.
To achieve maximum flowering potential you will need to plant Matthiola incana in a full sun position that is well drained as these plants will not tolerate wet feet. Plants seem to be quite drought tolerant once established although we mulch ours to help with the summer dry!
Whilst this plant is a short lived perennial at around 3 or so years, it is a prolific self sowers so you will always have lots of little volunteers to be able to reposition in the garden or gift to gardening friends. Plants actually do become more woody each year but if you pinch them out from the early days it will assist with a more compact plant. is also a favorite of florists who appreciate the robust blooms for their vertical interest, sturdy stems, spicy-sweet aroma, and longevity in vase arrangements.
