What a stunning poppy this Iceland Poppy is with its pure white tissue paper-like blooms and lemon centres and stamens that flower flat out from early spring through to mid summer making them a sought after variety for the cutting garden. Technically considered a hardy perennial, poppies can survive sub zero temperatures but because they don’t do well in hot temperatures they are often grown as an annual. For maximum flowering plant in a full sun position in well drained soil.
The more you cut your flowers the more your plant will produce. Harvest your flowers just as you see the buds barely starting to break open. If you cut them when they are fully open they damage very easily, so be sure to harvest this variety frequently.
Immediately after cutting either flame or dip the ends in boiling water for 7-10 seconds, you will notice that the stems start to change colour. Pop freshly treated flowers into water right away. You can expect a vase life of a week.
