Penstemon | Stapleford Gem
This beautiful award-winning Penstemon has a bushy upright growth habit with bell-shaped flowers in a bright lilac colour with pale pink upper lips, white lower lips and throats with delicate veining. With this stunning colour palette if fits easily into most garden schemes. The flower stems rise above a mound of glossy lance-shaped leaves. These plants are vigorous as well as being fast-growing and can be used in either a pot of in the garden. Flowering occurs from late spring and well into autumn and it adds lovely vertical accents in the garden.
Happy in either full sun or partial shade Stapleford Gem appreciates dry to medium moisture but well-drained soil. Penstemons dislike wet conditions and need good drainage to perform to their best. Penstemons actually need very little water and really need no fertiliser as this can cause dieback in winter. This lovely plant will attract plenty of butterflies and other pollinators to your garden and we are happy to say is not eaten by pesky rabbits so they stand up well here! Deadhead to maintain vigour and encourage repeat flowering. Penstemons also make an excellent cut flower.
