Persicaria microcephala | Red Dragon
If you are looking for a plant for dappled shade then Persicaria microcephala Red Dragon is a stunning choice with its dark red leaves with silvery chevron markings. With more sun the leaf colour tends to be more prominent. Persicaria microcephala Red Dragon also has the prettiest small white flowers, although it is grown more for its foliage than its flowers. The leaves change colour to green with maturity but the combination of both is quite stunning. It looks great on mass in a woodland planting such as we have but is just as much at home in a cottage garden or mixed border. It is best grown in moist but well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Both the flowers and the foliage are great for cutting. Attractive to butterflies. Likes a bit of room to wander around!
