Persicaria virginiana variegata | Painters PaletteRegular price $12.00 Save $-12.00
Known as Painters Palette Fleece Flower, this herbaceous perennial for shade has a striking and unusual and showy tricolor variegation.
The main body of the leaf is a yellowish green and cream variegation and it's marked with a burgundy chevron stripe which looks very effective effective paired with blue foliage, such as that of a Euphorbia or you could highlight the dark chevron stripe by pairing it with red or burgundy foliage.
Good for deep shade, but be aware it does spread and self sow so it is better suited to big areas, although it can be dug out if it overstays it's welcome.
This plant has multi-seasonal interest with its foliage during spring, summer and autumn and then its red flowers through summer and often into autumn. The flower stems waft above the leaves with lots of tiny red flowers in late summer through autumn and whilst they are fairly insignificant they are interesting up close.
Cut back in autumn to the ground to encourage fresh growth .
Will cope with sun or partial shade and likes a moist but well drained position, so mulching will help with this.
