Physocarpus | Shady Lady
A standout in the landscape for the length of its growing season, the award winning Physocarpus opulifolius is a stunning dark purple leaved ninebark cultivar. There is so much to love about this plant from its decorative exfoliating bark, its beautiful creamy-white flowers that are attractive dense round balls of pink tinged flowers in late spring that are the followed but drooping red clusters of berries in the autumn. The dark lobed leaves will fade to green in hotter summer climates or partial shade can also make this occur. A multi-seasonal plant that gives interest throughout the year, no garden should be without this attractive multi-stemmed shrub.
The plants are vigorous and enjoy good resistance to disease. Full sun or partial shade plants are tolerant of a wide range of soil conditions except soil that is too wet.
The Royal Horticultural Society gave this stunning shrub the Award of Garden Merit. Looks great planted in groups and it is great for mixed shrub borders, hedges and screening as well as being suited to banks and slopes for erosion control. Prune as required after flowering.
