Rudbeckia occidentalis | Green Wizard
This plant is an absolute gift to anyone doing floral work. Rudbeckia 'Green Wizard' is a striking clumping ornamental plant for the back of any border. It is the flowers that make this a standout plant for the garden. We could get all technical in how to describe the flower with its phyllaries or you could just look at the picture below!
They are, of course, super for cutting for use fresh, as they last well not only in water but also make an excellent dried flower. They prefer a semi-shaded position and mulch will help ensure that the plant does not dry out over summer. They look fabulous mixed in with our Shasta daisies and are perfect for a cottage garden, informal garden style as well as wildflower gardens which are becoming all the rage.
To keep your plants vigorous divide them every 2-3 years as soon as growth begins in spring. I have shown you a picture with our two plants in the garden, and as you can see they have big leaves and tall flower stems
