Salvia | confertiflora
Also known as Red Velvet Sage, the striking flower spikes are crowded with small, velvety orangey-red flowers from mid-summer right through until late autumn. Salvia confertiflora also has large dark green leaves that make this a stand out plant even when it is not in flower. Happy in full sun to partial shade in well-drained soil.
Deadheading – the removal of spent flowers, is a practice that will always benefit the plant’s health and appearance, and encourage repeat flowering. This can be done at any time. Pruning simply involves the removal of the entire stems of spent growth. At any time, you can perform cosmetic pruning -- shaping, controlling height and width and removing the oldest wood. Some gardeners occasionally remove the oldest stems to encourage fresh new growth.
