Sanguisorba | officinalis
Sanguisorba officinalis is a native of Europe and an old-world herb that is currently enjoying a resurgence in popularity overseas thanks to the revival of interest in perennial gardens as well as a naturalised style of planting. Sanguisorba conveys a relaxed feel to the garden and also make an excellent groundcover as well as looking right at home as part of a natural style planting scheme and work perfectly popped in amongst grasses.
The shape and colour of these flowers make them look a little bit like raspberries or little bottlebrushes on stems. Sanguisorba used as a herb has a flavour, not unlike that of a cucumber. Happiest in a sunny but moist spot in the garden, the flowers look stunning as a cut flower and their deeply toothed leaves can also add interest to floral work. The flower stems are approximately 60-90cm and stand proud above the leaves and look amazing planted en masse. I
