Tropaeolum minus | Nasturtium Black Velvet
Nasturtiums are an easy-to-grow annual whose leaves and flowers are edible, and your plants will self sow. Water regularly throughout the growing season, but be careful not to over-water. Cutting off the faded/dead flowers will encourage continual flowering. If you’re growing nasturtiums in containers, they may need to be trimmed back occasionally over the growing season. We grow ours up our steel garden stakes - just tie four pieces of string around the top and peg the string out to the sides - use weedmat pins to secure the twine down and grow your Nasturtiums up them for a pretty floral teepee. This is also a great project for children who can also collect the seeds and re-sow them for more plants. Nasturtiums also make great little cut flowers. We have many beautiful varieties of Nasturtiums including Milk Maid which is cream and some lovely apricot ones!
