perfect for pollinators

Verbascum is a wonderful plant as they don't take up a lot of room in the garden but produce masses of flowers without taking up lots of space on the ground. Their vertical flower spikes help any border work visually by leading the eye upwards.

Verbascum blattaria f. albiflorum, often marketed as ‘White Blush’ is one of the most popular varieties. Glossy leaves form a basal rosette with the elegant flower stems having dark crimson buds that open to reveal large white flowers with a deep purple bee.

Incredibly easy to grow, Verbascum blattaria are hardy and will cope with very low temperatures down minus 18°C!  They are tolerant of most soil types and conditions, from wet clay through to dry sand, and grow well in both sun or shade.

Verbascum don't last well as cut flowers so they are best left in the garden, although they can look pretty added to a bouquet even though their flowers maybe fleeting.  They bloom throughout the summer, with a few sporadic flowers into autumn. They are an excellent choice for the sunny border, cottage-style plantings and gravel gardens. A favourite of bees.
