Verbascum olympicum f. Album
This plant is a show stopper and will add architectural drama and elegance to your garden with its tall and majestic creamy white flower spikes that tower above the grey felted rosette of foliage which can reach up to 30cm in length.
The individual flowers are approximately 2.5cm in diameter and these flower in succession over a long period from early to late summer. The flower spikes themselves can reach in excess of 1.8m and the overall width of the plant can get up to 1.2m wide, so these plants will demand some space. Well suited to the gravel style garden as well as a great cottage garden plant, perfect also for a coastal garden and wild garden look and used a lot in English style gardens.
Greek Mullein tends to be a short lived perennial, but it seeds in profusion so you will always be assured of its continuation in the garden. Butterflies and bees will be calling in their friends for the nectar buffet that these flower spikes produce. A sunny spot in a well drained position is what will give you the best results with this plant which is not commonly seen, so perfect if you want something to give you a point of difference in your garden. Plants can get a touch of powdery mildew in wet humid conditions.
This plant with its height works will with Verbena bonariensis and Gaura
These plants are also reported to make an excellent cut flower.
