perfect for pollinators

This beauty is reputedly the largest of all dahlias and hailing from Mexico, in perfect sheltered conditions, it can grow to around 3 or more metres in height.

Large, dense clusters of large, pinkish-mauve flowers  with golden centres open on the strong, bamboo-like stems. These are thick and become woody at the base, and along with the dark green, divided, velvety leaves, often have a purplish tinge. Budding and flowering, usually in late March which is initiated by a long warm autumn and days getting shorter.

After flowering the plant should be cut back to the ground and it will grow again in spring to start the whole process all over again.

If you don't want a massive plant or you want to encourage a more bushy plant, simply prune the tops occasionally during the growing season.  You can feed every couple of months during the growing season with an all purpose fertiliser.

Plants are said to be hardy to  around -7 to -4°C if planted deep and well-mulched. We recommend protecting from strong winds as the new shoots and flower sprays are delicate. It enjoys a well drained position along with regular watering in warmer months although mulching certainly helps with this.  Plants in full sun or half day sun is fine.

Please note this is plant not a tuber

This magnificent plant is an unbeatable architectural plant, but be aware it takes up a lot of space!

Perennial | Frost tender

Height : Can reach up to 4m x 3m Wide

Plant Size :: PB 2 - Plant numbers are very limited for this in Spring 2022 when they become available due to poor seed germination.
