Liatris, commonly known as Gayfeather or Blazing Star, is actually a member of the Aster family. Plants form a low clump of grassy lily-like leaves and in midsummer bear tall spikes made up of may tiny white flowers. This particular variety was bred especially for cutting so if you are looking for something striking for your cutting patch then this is a great choice with the added bonus that they are equally as attractive as a dried flower.
These flowers start flowering from the top and work their way down to the bottom. Lasts up to two weeks in a vase. An excellent vertical contrast plant and particularly effective planted en masse in a naturalistic planting.
A great choice for bees and butterflies and the birds love the seed in autumn. A long-lasting flower both in the garden and as a cut flower. Full sun is preferred although they will cope with partial shade. Not fussy about soil type but does like good drainage. Summer flowering.
