Birds add an immeasurable element of life, movement and colour to your garden, as well as great pleasure.

This delightful book by New Zealand author Rosemary Tully shares more than 35 recipes and provides the ideal way of not only tempting birds to pay a visit but also ensuring that they stay healthy all year round, particularly during winter.

Since 1991 Rosemary Tully has run Whakatane Bird Rescue from her home in the Bay of Plenty, caring from sick, injured and orphaned kiwi, weka, dotterels and New Zealand falcons, among others. In 2004 she was awarded a conservation award by the Department of Conservation in recognition of her work. She freely admits to having personally tasted some of the recipes!

This book provides the perfect way to encourage young children to get involved in the outdoors as well as teaching them about the birds and conservation - in the back of the book there are some contacts which can point you in the right direction to obtain more information.

The recipes feature inexpensive everyday items from the pantry and involve a minimum of fuss, making the preparation an enjoyable activity to share with friends and family.

The recipes cater to both native and introduced birds, from Tui (of course) and Silvereye to Thrushes, Finches and Blackbirds. And, if you want to learn more about birds and their conservation in New Zealand, a short directory of contacts at the back of the book will point you in the right direction.
