perfect for pollinators

Ilex 'Golden King' is a great choice for hedging, group plantings, a small specimen tree and as topiary. A wonderful plant for attracting bees, butterflies, moths, birds, and other pollinators. It provides shelter and habitat, has seeds for birds, and makes a great wildlife hedge. The little white blooms appear in summer, with the fruits appearing in autumn and winter. These fruits can be enjoyed for a long time before picking, and even after being picked they are used widely in floral and Christmas decorations. Ilex × altaclerensis is the result of crossing Ilex aquifolium and Ilex perado. This cross is the reason why this hybrid has beautiful green and gold variegated foliage. Grows to around 6m tall and 3m wide, it is easily trimmed for shape and size. The variegation on these means that they prefer a part shady spot to keep their colors but will tolerate full sun in cooler areas. Keep moist until established, watering in the mornings or evenings as midday watering makes them too hot. Fertilize by adding compost around its base once a tear to keep it happy. Too much fertilizer will make it leggy and weak.
